And if you're wondering why you should bother, well, let's just say there are 25 compelling reasons—or 25 tacos, as some might argue. (Whichever way you count them, it's still a delicious proposition.)

Mexico is one of the most culturally, ethnically and geographically diverse countries in the world and it captured my attention and heart. It has an estimated population of over 127 million people, making it the 11th most populous country globally. Mexico is a large country spanning 2 million square kilometers – from north to south – it offers a rich diversity of landscapes, climates and ecosystems that attract travelers from all over the world. The country is considered a top expat and tourist destination.

The culture of this vast nation is equally as varied and complex, with influences drawn from Spanish colonial history along with contributions made by various indigenous peoples throughout its development. This blend of cultures and traditions can be seen in almost all aspects of life in Mexico – from language to cuisine to music and art. Even more remarkable, this diversity extends beyond what you see on the surface; hidden within are subtle variations in customs amongst different regions that help to create a unique identity for each area.

1. Incredible Ancient Ruins: Mexico has some of the most amazing ancient ruins in the world, including the famous Chichen Itza and Teotihuacan.

There are plenty of beaches in Mexico, with over 8,000 kilometers of coastline on both its Pacific and Caribbean coasts, you can find spots with diverse activities and scenery like no other place on earth. From beach bungalows in the east to sport fishing in the west, there are many water sports and beach vacations to enjoy.

The availability of fresh seafood in many regions makes Mexico an ideal destination for those looking to explore new culinary experiences.

Seeing these majestic mammals is amazing and I highly recommend it. I was lucky enough to take a trip to San Blas in Nayarit and it was an incredible experience.

From December to March, gray whales migrate off the coast of Baja California making this one of the most popular destinations for whale-watching enthusiasts from around the world. The best part? You don’t need experience or special equipment to see these beautiful animals. Local experienced guides will take you on full-day cruises so you can get up close and personal with some of nature's most majestic creatures without having to worry about any technical know-how.

Rainfall is usually confined to the summer months, but even then it is generally short and showers are followed by sunshine.

The average temperature in Mexico ranges from 77-90°F (25-32°C), making it a great destination for holiday makers looking for some sun. In coastal areas such as Cancun and Acapulco, you can expect higher temperatures with sea breezes keeping it cool enough to enjoy the beach without feeling too hot or uncomfortable. The nights are also cooler due to the ocean winds coming in off the coast line. 


11. National Parks: From seeing exotic wildlife to ancient ruins, there's plenty to discover.

One of my favorite reasons to visit Mexico is it's proximity to the US. Not only that, but you don't need to switch sim cards. Your American service will work in Mexico and should work as a normal domestic plan as long as you are calling within the US. This makes it super easy to work and stay connected while visiting. No hassle of getting a sim or a new number for your phone.


15. Excellent Transportation Options: Mexico has excellent transportation, including air travel and bus services.


This country offers an incredibly diverse array of attractions, from its beaches and archaeological sites to its vibrant culture and cuisine, and with excellent transportation options, it is easier than ever to explore this fascinating country. From major airports to easily accessible bus services, you have plenty of options when traveling in Mexico. Air travel provides convenient access to the larger cities and the bus services serve as a great way to explore the smaller towns and villages. With so many different ways to get around, visitors can easily experience all that this country has to offer.

Flights within Mexico are generally cheap and it is easy to get from one point of the country to another. Aeromexico, Viva Aerobus and Volaris are the main carriers that service connections within Mexico and beyond. On of the many reasons that makes getting to this country easy.

This stunning natural phenomenon occurs every year when millions of butterflies migrate from Canada and the United States to Michoacan's Oyamel fir trees. The Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that contains more than fifty thousand hectares of oyamel fir forests.

The best time to visit this amazing reserve is November through March, as it is when you can witness the most number of butterflies at once. During these months, visitors will find many activities such as guided walks, educational talks and workshops on the history of their migration patterns. It's also possible to camp in designated areas while taking in the majestic beauty of these delicate creatures visiting from around North America.

Other notable sites include the Historic Centre of Mexico City; San Miguel and Santa Rosa de Viterbo Missions; the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve; Sian Ka'an biosphere reserve; and Camino Real de Tierra Adentro - a network of trails connecting northern Mexico to Spanish colonial sites.

The Historic Center of Mexico City which was built on top of Tenochtitlan, an Aztec capital city is also part of this prestigious list. It holds numerous colonial-era buildings including five major square plazas surrounded by cathedrals, churches, palaces, government buildings and archeological sites in Mexico such as Templo Mayor (the main temple).

23. The Birthplace of Tequila: Take a tour across tequila country and see the process in the making.

Tequila country is well known for its production of one of the most popular alcoholic beverages in the world, Tequila. It is made from the fermented juice of the blue agave plant and has been a part of Mexican culture for centuries. In 2006, UNESCO declared Tequila-producing regions a World Heritage Site in recognition of its cultural importance. 

The traditional Tequila country stretches across five Mexican states including Jalisco, Guanajuato, Michoacan, Nayarit and Tamaulipas. This region is particularly known for its highly prized blue agave plant which takes 8 to 12 years to reach maturity and harvest. The process used to produce tequila requires great skill - it starts with harvesting the succulent hearts or piñas of the agave plants before they are cooked and fermented using natural elements such as water, air and yeast.

The coast of Mexico is teaming with life and is an ideal destination for snorkeling enthusiasts, offering crystal clear waters, great visibility and a wide variety of colorful marine life.
