About WorldWideyedWes

I'm Wesley.

Nice to meet you!

I have been fortunate enough to have lived on 2 different continents and traveled to many countries around the world. Now I'm documenting my travels and sharing my advice for others traversing this globe.

In the fall of 2019, I quit my job and moved to Thailand. But that was just the beginning.

Welcome to my travel blog! I'm excited to share my experiences and stories from all of the amazing places I've been lucky enough to explore over the years. From exotic beaches to bustling cities, I'm always looking for a new adventure.

Whether you're an experienced traveler or just getting started, I hope this blog inspires you to get out and explore! If you need any assistance in traveling or trip planning, you can see my services here.

More about my Story

Born on the road, quite literally! My life's journey began amidst cobblestones and the wailing sirens of an ambulance in Germany. Pneumonia may have been an unexpected start, but it gifted me my inaugural flight just a day old – a helicopter ride to a regional hospital. It's a tale I chuckle about now, but it set the stage for a lifelong love affair with travel.

From the get-go, wanderlust seemed to course through my veins. My earliest memories are of staying up late, eyes glued to Anthony Bourdain and the Travel Channel, daydreaming about the mesmerizing places waiting to be explored. That insatiable curiosity never left me.

The last 18 years of my life were dominated by the bustling world of the transportation industry. In a way, it was fitting, considering my affinity for movement. During a remarkable six-year period, I barely spent more than four days in any one place – and that even included my vacations! It was during this whirlwind period that I honed the arts of organization and packing to an efficiency level that would impress even the most seasoned travelers.

The name 'Wide-eyed Wes' may seem ironic, and that's exactly the point. It all began as an inside joke. You see, no matter how incredible the backdrop or the moment, my eyes always seem to be closed in photographs. So, 'Wide-eyed Wes” was coined tongue in cheek. It's a reminder that even though I might appear a little oblivious in pictures, my passion for travel and exploration is anything but closed off. In fact, it's wide open, and I'm here to share every adventure with you.

Recently, I've transformed my life from the confines of an office to the boundless expanse of remote work. My "office" now knows no bounds, except for a reliable internet connection. This newfound freedom is a gift I cherish every day, even though it comes with its unique set of challenges. Living with hidden disabilities – a persistent herniated disk and the unexpected diagnosis of pericarditis (inflammation of the heart) in 2022 – has taught me resilience. While some days may be tougher than others, I've learned the importance of understanding my limits and planning wisely to make the most of each adventure.

As a professional nomad, my heart belongs to the world, and I adore sharing my globetrotting tales through my blog and social media. Join me on this exciting journey as I continue to explore our beautiful planet, one destination at a time. Whether it's from the cobblestone streets of Guadalajara or the serene landscapes of Tennessee, I'm here to inspire, educate, and connect with fellow wanderers.

Travel is not just a hobby; it's an integral part of who I am, and I can't wait to share it with you. I'm not only an explorer but also a dedicated aficionado of geography and travel planning. These passions led me to create this site, a place for those seeking inspiration and guidance to plan their own escapes and adventures.

I have expanded my site and services by adding trip planning and travel companion services. If you are in need of expert advice, feel free to reach out! I love discussing travel plans.
